Jewish "Truth or Myth" in Brighton Beach

Women and Teens from the Brighton Beach and Manhattan Beach area joined for a unique lecture and discussion titled "Truth or Myth" at the Chabad Neshama Center.

The guest lecturer Mrs. Rishe Deitsch eloquently explained and debunked the many myths that surround our many interesting traditions Jewish law and Jewish customs.
"There are many customs that are shrouded with myths of how and why a Mitzvah is done a certain way that it's become misinterpreted, its therefore important for us to explain the real reason behind the mitzvah that it should be meaningful and inspirational," said Shula Winner – co Director of Chabad Lubavitch of Manhattan Beach.

"If only I would have heard these reasons and explanations years ago… It makes so much sense," said Mrs Cohen to Reb. Esther Winner - co Director of Chabad Lubavitch of W Brighton Beach. “We appreciate all that you do for the community, we love coming.”

Many of the girl teens from the Chabad Neshama Teen Group joined this discussion and stayed late into the night with their many questions.

Following the theme of the night of black and white – true or false, the women and teens enjoyed light refreshments all with the black and white colors.

Festival of Lights in Front of S'head Bay

The faithful flocked across the local waterfront to see the light during a menorah illumination at Holocaust Memorial Park at the foot of Sheepshead Bay.

Rabbi Avrohom Winner director of Neshama-Chabad Lubavitch of Manhattan Beach, and local resident Steven Maksin were elevated in a cherry picker to light the towering candelabra in honor of the Festival of Lights at the tribute park, West End Avenue and Shore Boulevard.

The crowd basked in the glow and participated in a program of celebration and rites, which were preceded, and followed, by dancing in the streets.

Holiday Fun at Seabreeze

Festive frolickers helped ignite the spirit of Chanukah during a community celebration at the Seabreeze Jewish Center.

A live petting zoo, carnival-style amusements, plus the illumination of a giant menorah added to the revel for mom, dad and the kids, who flocked to the synagogue, 311 Seabreeze Avenue, to help usher in the festival of lights with a program of cheer.

The Chanukah Wonderland was a project of the Seabreeze Jewish Center and Neshama-Chabad Lubavitch of W Brighton Beach and Manhattan Beach.

Chabad Neshama Teens Light up the Poconos

Sixty teens from the Brighton Beach area spent part of their winter vacation snow tubing in the Pocono mountains. The public school teens belong to the Chabad-Neshama Teen Club, which organized the trip offering the teens an opportunity to celebrate the holiday season in a totally Jewish atmosphere.

“This is the first time in my life that I lit Chanukah candles, it was super!” said Boris Mazoranski of the Menorah lighting he took part in, with dozens of his friends. The experience was a positive one for the teens, and many committed themselves to becoming more involved in Jewish celebrations in the future.

Over one hundred Jewish teens belong to the club, the biggest Jewish outreach effort to unaffiliated teens in Brooklyn. The youth are encouraged to take pride in being Jewish, and participate in a variety of recreational and educational programs thought the year. The Teen Club is one of the many programs of Chabad Lubavitch of W Brighton Beach and Manhattan Beach.

Manhattan Beach and Brighton Beach say L’chaim

Recently Chabad Lubavitch of W Brighton Beach and Manhattan Beach held a Wine and Liquor Tasting – Celebrating Jewish Pride. Many young Russian-American professionals from the Manhattan Beach and Brighton Beach communities attended.

“The Rebbe Rashab told the previous Rebbe in a dream you have a light shining in your home, he was referring to the Rebbe. The Rebbe is our “shining light”, the light that gives us direction and inspiration,” said Rabbi Avrohom Winner - Shliach to Manhattan Beach.

“We must not ask ‘why’, we must ask ‘what’. What are we doing to strengthen our commitment to G-d and his Torah? The Rebbe encouraged us that we must expand especially when tragedy occurs,” said Rabbi Zushe Winner – Shliach of the Brighton Beach Area.

The lavish buffet dinner and the abundance of Kosher wines and liquors kept the guests there for a great evening of celebration.
